WWE has a lot of moving parts. It looks like that could have been the issue recently when a Royal Rumble match was announced that had already been called off. Of course, it doesn’t help that Vince McMahon is around constantely changing his mind.

Dave Meltzer explained what went on behind the Asuka vs Becky Lynch match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and why it was called off after it was announced during Wrestling Observer Live. Apparently, WWE is still reworking the Royal Rumble card. You never know what that could mean for WrestleMania too.

“So they’re going to do meetings this week to come up with a Rumble card.”

“Originally the [Asuka vs Becky Lynch] match was happening, but then Vince decided that he wanted to revamp the card and they were, when they taped Main Event it was gonna air later in the week. At that time, the plan was to announce the match with Asuka and Becky Lynch on Tuesday’s SmackDown, but during that intrim period Vince decided to change his mind so they never announced that match on that SmackDown. Not saying that match won’t happen but it was definitely off when that show came on.”

Essentially, they accidentally announced something that Vince had already changed his mind on and Paige had to take the fall on her way out as SmackDown General Manager.

The fact is as Meltzer said that WWE doesn’t even have their Royal Rumble card in stone yet.

It looks like this was another instance of miscommunication in WWE. At this point, it shouldn’t be any big surprise. Still, it was puzzling to think that WWE would announce Asuka vs Becky Lynch during an episode of Main Event, but wilder things have happened before.

If this is a sign of Vince McMahon’s New Era, then it kind of feels like pretty much more of the same.
