WWE has some big plans for 2019. Vince McMahon’s promise of a New Era should have proven that. Hopefully, something materializes from this other than WWE just being a bigger company. They have a ton of great Superstars and not very many spaces open on big time platforms to show them off.
Will Cooling from Fighting Spirit Magazine noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that many United Kingdom promotions have needed to switch around several dates due to WWE’s restriction on NXT UK talent. One particularly frustrating recent incident came when NXT UK Superstars were told that they couldn’t work around the January 26th date of NXT TakeOver: Phoenix.
“[Progress] had a change of dates because it clashes with the Royal Rumble weekend so those guys are going to work on TakeOver — they’ve not said that, but that’s clearly the reason.”
It was noted that this kind of constant changing of dates will eventually kill any promotion trying to work around WWE’s whim. Maybe WWE doesn’t want any of the other companies doing well in the first place so this just plays into their master plan. Either way, we might want to expect to see a few NXT UK Superstars in Phoenix for one reason or another.
