NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has had a strong run with the NXT Championship thus far, but now, he’s got the numbers to back it up.
Ciampa captured the title from Aleister Black on July 18th, although NXT recognises the reign as starting on July 25th which is when the episode aired. The former NXT Tag Team Champion has had quite the rise to the top since he went on his solo run as a heel, and it appears as if he’s far from being done down in developmental.
As you can see Ciampa has been crunching the numbers, and has decided to compare himself to some of the other champions that have stepped foot through the famous yellow ropes.
As you can see he has now outlasted the amount of time that Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe held the belt. Finn Balor is the current record holder at 293 days, meaning that Ciampa is still just under half way towards catching up with The Demon.
The big question is whether or not he’ll even have the time to beat the total, with some believing that Tommaso will be called up to the main roster sooner rather than later. While there’s no possible way of knowing whether or not that’s the case, he will be facing a tricky challenge at Takeover: Phoenix next month when he defends the title against Aleister Black.
Either way, it’s certainly an exciting time to be a fan of the former ROH star.
