WWE and the wrestling culture if shifting to become further embedded in culture. Once simply seen as a sport, wrestling has entered the realm of entertainment. You can find traces of wrestling in video games, books, movies, charity and a variety of other areas.
Xavier Woods of The New Day took his passion for gaming to the next level with the creation of UpUpDownDown, which took home a Guinness World Record earlier this year. His rivalry with Kenny Omega has also brought the IWGP Heavyweight Champion into the spotlight, as well.
Woods and Omega have further solidified their place in gaming culture, whilst actively participating in the wrestling culture that they know and love. As such, both men have been announced as nominations for ‘Fan Favorite Celebrity Gamer (Athlete).’ as part of the 2018 Gamers’ Choice Awards.
Additionally, WWE 2K19, which has been touted as the best WWE game in years is nominated for ‘Fan Favorite Sport Game.’ This comes as no surprise, given the plethora of improvements 2K made on the franchise this year, ahead of the 2K20 anniversary game fans expect next year.
Voting is now open, and while it requires registration, fans can vote every hour for their favorites. If you’re wanting to support Woods, Omega, or WWE 2K19, you can vote here.
The Gamers’ Choice Awards will air on CBS on December 9. If you do intend to vote for any categories, the sooner the better.
