Ronda Rousey is a fighting champion, so she’s not going to shy away from defending her title. But it seems like her current challenger is someone that she wants to get out of the way as soon as possible at this point.
We previously reported that Natalya was supposed to turn heel but her father’s passing made WWE reconsider this option. Therefore, Nia Jax was plugged into the role of Rousey’s opponent. Then Nia Jax destroyed Becky Lynch’s face which resulted in a push for Jax and seemingly rewarding her for botching a punch that injured the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
But The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that people in WWE, as well as Rousey, are pulling for her feud with Nia Jax to be a short program. This is being meant as a temporary thing for Rousey as she wants her focus to be on Charlotte Flair next before moving back to Becky Lynch so they can hopefully finish what they started and never got to finish at Survivor Series before Nia Jax injured Lynch. Ronda and others backstage in WWE want to make sure that the clear direction if Flair and Lynch and not Jax.
Only time will tell how this situation plays out, but WWE would probably be best served to keep Rousey as happy as they possibly can in the meantime while they solidify her even more as the face of the company. The backstage heat on Nia Jax seems to be very real as well, so this could likely play into their reasons of pulling for this to be a much shorter feud.
