AJ Styles lost his WWE Championship right before Survivor Series which meant he got to sit at home and watch the show with his family if he wanted to turn it on. But it turns out that he is reportedly in negotiating with WWE on a new deal that would see him getting a much preferable schedule.
Sean Sapp of Fightful reports that AJ Styles and WWE are talking about a new contract and WWE wants a 3-year deal as Styles is pulling for one with limited dates much like Randy Orton currently enjoys. Sidenote: Orton missed Survivor Series too.
It was reported that Styles “advocated” in dropping the WWE Championship because all that time on the road as champ was cutting into his family time at home which he really enjoys.
There is another factor at play as well and it comes in the form of all that extra cash flow that will be coming into WWE from their upcoming Fox Sports contract. The Saudi Arabia deal is an issue as well because WWE is going to keep getting more money from that venture.
It was noted that several Superstars could see their compensation as well because they’re expecting a bump in pay or a break in how much they have to work on the road.
This will be an interesting situation, but Styles’ debut in the #3 spot during the 2016 Royal Rumble might very well mean that there is a possibility he won’t be around after January’s event if they can’t come to a new deal. Only time will tell, but it would be very beneficial for WWE to lock him down because Styles has a variety of places he could work.
