Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship on SmackDown Live this week and then promptly turned heel afterward. This was done with a complete heel turn as well which added a couple interesting dynamics to the now-switched up Survivor Series match against Brock Lesnar. But SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon, who is scheduled to participate in the Men’s Elimination tag team match at Survivor Series was nowhere to be found in the closing moments.
Before the WWE Championship match went down, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon were arguing backstage. In fact, you could trace the heat between the two of them all the way back to last year’s WrestleMania and McMahon could even use the excuse that Bryan sat out much of their WrestleMania tag team match against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as a means to make Shane take even more punishment at a time when he needed a hernia surgery.
Even though a story between these two seems to be in progress, Daniel Bryan’s heel turn seems to have changed up that direction. It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that although they might have appeared to tease a match between the two Meltzer has been told that the direction is no longer Bryan vs McMahon at WrestleMania.
Only time will tell how they book the Best In The World and the current WWE Champion at Mania next year, but it looks like they’ll be taking up different slots on the card.
