WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year and they need a main event that will draw attention to what they’re doing on a weekly basis. After all, Mania is a great way to rope casual fans back into watching all the time. With Brock Lesnar as WWE Universal Champion, he won’t be around much which shouldn’t be a big surprise at this point, but his WrestleMania opponent might not be as cut and dry.
As we previously reported, Braun Strowman has been having some issues backstage. Maybe that played into this decision, but for whatever reason, it looks like WWE is eyeing more than just Strowman for the big Universal Title match at WrestleMania.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that “there is a significant angle that is supposed to be part of his storyline going forward.” This angle is supposed to involve Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre. Mania will be Lesnar’s last date on his reported contract.
After all, Rollins threw some major shade at Lesnar on Raw this week and McIntyre is already being groomed for a top spot in the company. So it looks like the Universal Title match at WrestleMania might not be a singles match after all.
Only time will tell how WWE gets to Mania next year, but it appears they’re already laying the groundwork for something pretty special. If you’re a fan of Drew McIntyre or Seth Rollins this is apparently great news as well.
