WWE Crown Jewel is happening but they won’t be seeing John Cena make the trip. He made it very clear to WWE that he wouldn’t be traveling with the show to Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago and WWE Creative was told about it — but at the time the event was up in the air anyway so they held off on taking Cena out of the picture. But since the show was confirmed to be still happening, they had no choice but to take John Cena out.
We previously reported that WWE switched up the brackets for the WWE World Cup Tournament from the initial plans. The brackets were supposed to include Raw vs SmackDown talent but they changed that idea to have brands face off against those on the same side until the finals were the red and blue brands’ representatives would battle it out.
Since even after making another generous offer to Cena he wouldn’t perform on the show — plans were changed. But it turns out that even if Cena would have competed at WWE Crown Jewel, he wouldn’t have been working multiple times.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE had initially booked John Cena vs Rey Mysterio in the first round of the tournament with Mysterio coming away with the big win.
Only time will tell when WWE can get John Cena to make any kind of return to the ring and wrestle in a match. But it’s not going down in Saudi Arabia.
