Roman Reigns is the face of WWE, but now he’s not going to be around as he must go home and beat leukemia before returning. We don’t know when that will be either and in WWE, the show must go on.
Dave Meltzer listed a few names during Wrestling Observer Radio of who could be the next “top guy” in WWE. Although as we previously reported, he was very high on the idea of Drew McIntyre getting that spot he continued to list off names. Unfortunately, he came up with many reasons why it will be so hard to replace Roman Reigns with the talent they have available. After all, a guy like Roman Reigns doesn’t come around very often.
For the ease of our readers, we will list off each wrestler mentioned and the explanation next to their name to explain why they might or might not be considered to take Roman’s place.
AJ Styles: “He’s too old.”
Braun Strowman: “Strowman’s kind of one-dimensional. I don’t know, he can be the stop-gap guy. I don’t see him as the long term, but perhaps they will be. He’s the most popular guy right now and he’s a babyface.”
Ricochet: “I think he could be one of the biggest stars in the company. He’s not their type to be ‘the guy’ he can be a top guy.”
Seth Rollins: “Maybe I mean I don’t rule that one out. He’s probably the most popular guy on the Raw brand or has been the most popular guy on the Raw brand. So maybe.”
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa: “Those guys aren’t ‘the guy’
Adam Cole: “He’s got all the charisma in the world but I think that you know he’s got the look, he’s got the promos. He’s got everything but he doesn’t have the size. I don’t know if Vince is going to go with a guy of that size as ‘the guy.'”
EC3: “He has a presence but I don’t think his wrestling is good enough. He can talk, he can stand there. I just don’t feel like he’s good enough at this to be ‘the guy’ even though he’s good at certain things. He’s got the great look, and the great presence, so I don’t know. It’s an interesting thing down the line.”
It was noted that WWE has always had a Vince McMahon hand-picked guy leading the company for the last 20 years. Now it looks like the guy that Vince has been building up for years isn’t going to be around. So they need to figure something out until Roman Reigns beats leukemia and makes his return as a full-fledged hero.
