Roman Reigns opened up Raw this week with a shocking announcement that he has been living with leukemia for 11 years and it is now out of remission. Because he must go home and fight for his life to beat this cancer, he had to drop the Universal Title and leave WWE — although he will be back.
The response was immediate and supportive for Roman Reigns. He posted a picture to his Instagram of his Shield brothers following Raw to express his current situation saying: “Brothers forever. Time to whoop leukemia’s ass. Believe that.”
Reigns followed up on Tuesday afternoon with a much more detailed message to thank fans for their support. He has had plenty of people reach out to him and he wanted to make sure they all knew how appreciated their encouraging words were.
“Thank you to everyone who’s reached out…I can’t put into words what it means to me. Your energy and positivity motivate me to get better quickly to get back in the ring, but for now I’m going to spend time with my family and focus on health. Thank you – Joe/Roman”
It seems like he is distancing himself from the Roman Reigns character while he’s dealing with this life-threatening disease. Hopefully, he will pull through this in record time. But if anything, we can be certain that he’s receiving the best medical treatments possible given his celebrity status so there is comfort in that as well.
This is an awful story and as time goes on, we promise to keep you up to date on how Roman/Joe is doing.
