The Universal Championship is now vacant after Roman Reigns’ unexpected announcement on Raw this week that he’s been living with leukemia for 11 years and now it’s back. He must return home to fight a battle that is much more important than anything that takes place in the pro wrestling ring. But WWE must carry on and crown a new Universal Champion which will take place at Crown Jewel where Brock Lesnar will wrestle Braun Strowman.
Dave Meltzer discussed the future of the Universal Title on Wrestling Observer Radio where he speculated that barring WWE offering Lesnar a ton of money — way more than he has ever been offered, there is a very strong likelihood of having the Monster Among Men as Universal Champion.
“Obviously the championship, Brock Lesnar vs Braun Strowman and obviously that’s going to Braun Strowman unless they — I mean you can’t say 100% I mean they could give Brock Lesnar a ridiculous amount of money and have a surprise ending but I don’t think that’s going to happen this time, who knows?”
But it was also noted that it appears on television that they next program WWE is setting up is Strowman vs Drew McIntyre, therefore it would make sense if The Monster Among Men is awarded the Universal Title at Crown Jewel after finally beating Brock Lesnar.
Only time will tell how this situation turns out for everyone involved. Our thoughts are with Roman Reigns as he deals with this difficult battle, but we have confidence that he has what it takes to beat leukemia and return where Strowman already said last night that he’ll get a shot at his Universal Title as soon as The Big Dog returns.
