Since leaving WWE, Cody has dropped the Rhodes name and made a name for himself without using the legacy of his family to get him bookings. As a core member of The Bullet Club, the “American Nightmare” has found himself a key star in promotions such as Impact Wrestling (briefly), Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Most recently, Cody was defeated by IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega earlier this week at the G1 Special in San Francisco. Cody was vying for the Championship and control of the Bullet Club.

The two competitors took each other to the absolute limit, with Cody even landing on a table that didn’t break towards the end of their match. This may have caused some sort of injury, as the match finished up very quickly thereafter. That, at this time, is mere speculation.

After the two appeared to rekindle their unity and friendship when Tama Tonga started a civil war between the members of the group after the conclusion of their match.

After the conclusion of the match, Cody took to his Twitter account to announce he will be taking an extended break from wrestling to focus on a new project and let his body heal. He also adds that All In will be his return to wrestling.

It remains to be seen how the civil war with The Bullet Club plays out moving forward- as it does appear Cody will be out for an extended period of time.

Did you enjoy Omega vs. Cody at the G1 Special? Are you glad Cody is taking a break to heal?
