During the latest installment of PWInsider Elite Audio, a reader wrote in and asked if WWE would ever drop the brand split concept in the future.
Mike Johnson explained that with the separate television deals with RAW on The USA Network and SmackDown moving to FOX next year, it seems very unlikely that the brand split concept would go away.
“I don’t think the brand extension is going away. In fact until I hear otherwise my gut feeling is that the differences between RAW and SmackDown come far more solidify and will possibly become a bigger deal.”
Johnson mentioned that content from RAW may not be able to air on SmackDown and vise versa, which would further indicate that the brand split will remain in tact for the foreseeable future.
“We don’t know if they will be able to cross brand between the RAW & SmackDown brands moving forward or if they will be able to show clips from RAW on SmackDown and vise versa. Or if a advertiser is buying time on RAW through USA or Comcast, if that advertiser will also be able to cross promote their stuff on SmackDown via FOX.”
