Edge opens today’s show by discussing the trench coats he’d wear to the ring during his WWE career. He informs that each coat had their own slight differences, and he’d often come up with the ideas himself. He says he still has them all and he doesn’t want to give them away to people for nothing. They cost $3,500 each and weighed about 40 pounds.

Christian laughs and says that’s why his gimmick was wearing sunglasses. He discusses the origins of him wearing sunglasses to the ring. He recalls being at a Denny’s somewhere in California many years ago and a fan came up with a pair of huge sunglasses on. Christian asked where the fan found the glasses, but he was about to leave town and couldn’t make a stop to buy some of the glasses.

The fan urged Christian to take his pair of sunglasses and said he didn’t want any money for them, adding that if the sunglasses get used on television it would all be worth it. That’s how Christian’s obsession with funky sunglasses started.

Christian adds that when he was part of The Brood he wore big, fluffy shirts. When he transitioned out of The Brood he felt naked without a shirt on, so he began wearing the mesh shirts that he wore for the majority of his attitude era career. He looks back now with regret over the fact that he wore those mesh shirts. Edge laughs and adds that he regrets not wearing a shirt during one point in his career when he stopped working out, because he’s not happy with his physique at that time.

Edge & Christian welcome NXT Superstar, EC3 to the show.

EC3 says everything is going really good for him right now. He’s getting a great opportunity in NXT and he hopes to make the most of it. He jokes that the only negative of NXT is that he’s spending all of his time at home.

Christian says he initially didn’t like EC3 at all. EC3 was training at FCW at that time and Christian just didn’t have a good feeling about him. At one point Christian was returning from an injury and went down to FCW to get back into ring shape. EC3 volunteered to work with Christian and after getting to know him, Christian realized that he was completely wrong about him. The two men developed a great friendship.

Shortly after this EC3 was released, and Christian recalls being very bummed out about that at the time. However, he knew that EC3 had a lot of passion and he was going to make an impact on the business somewhere. EC3 says he’s so thankful that everything played out the way it did, and he’s very excited about what the future holds.

EC3 notes that his initial FCW run originated from him attending a paid tryout. He had to fly to the tryouts and pay $1,000 in order to have a chance to get in front of WWE trainers and officials. Edge says sometimes that’s the stuff that you have to do in order to get noticed.

EC3 admits that he felt a full range of emotions when he was released by WWE. He wasn’t really surprised but he was definitely in shock. He wasn’t able to work for another promotion for 3 months, but after that he immediately struck up conversation with TNA officials and within a week he was working for the company.

He was told about the company’s idea to have him portray the owner’s nephew and he was intrigued by that. He thought he’d be able to make something work with that character. Christian adds that the good thing about working as the owner’s nephew is that you’re basically guaranteed to get a lot of television time, and EC3 agrees.

He admits that he didn’t think he was ready to maintain a main event run when he debuted in TNA, but as the months and years progressed he became very confident in his abilities. He was able to work with legends like Kurt Angle and Sting, and then all of his dreams came true when he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

After working for years in TNA he began to feel that he needed a change of scenery. He admits that things didn’t necessarily work out in his personal life the way he thought they would, and amidst all the ownership changes within TNA he knew it was time for a change. He says he’s not afraid to fail in NXT or WWE, but he doesn’t think that will be a problem this time because he believes in himself this time around.

That sums up today’s episode of E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
