On Smackdown, the New Day won the right to have one of their members compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match. While they’ve not announced who it will be yet, it’s always fun to speculate. You really can’t go wrong with any of the members. Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods are all so skilled and bring a lot to the table.
Who will it be, though?
It can be argued that Xavier Woods is the dark horse of the New Day. He’s not tenured like Kofi Kingston is, and he’s not as physically imposing as Big E. If you looked at a picture of the New Day without knowing who they were, you’d probably gloss over Woods. It’s a shame, though, because he’s actually really good.
He had two good singles matches recently against both Sheamus and Cesaro. While those two are certainly talented, you cannot say they carried Woods. Woods held his own. And when he’s in tag matches, he doesn’t get overshadowed. He’s underrated in the ring. He’s seriously athletic.
And outside of the ring, he is charismatic and attention-grabbing. It helps that he has chemistry with his teammates, but the fact of the matter is is he is no scrub on the microphone. If someone called him the voice of the New Day, I wouldn’t argue it.
Woods’ charisma and athleticism would make him an interesting choice to win the contract.
Kofi Kingston is a veteran of the roster, through and through. He’s been on the roster for more than ten years. In that time, he became a four-time Intercontinental Champion and a three-time United States Champion. With the New Day, he holds the record for the longest tag team title reign in history. He also holds the record for cumulative days spent as Tag Team Champion. Kingston’s done it all, it seems. But he’s never won the big one. He’s never held the WWE Championship.
Kingston is no stranger to ladder matches. He’s been in a record-tying six Money in the Bank ladder matches. He knows what he’s doing in there, thanks to all the experience he has. His feats of athleticism and high-flying fit in well with the ladder match idea. They’re almost a perfect match for each other.
Despite all that, Kingston’s never won the match. If he were to win, it would be a feel good moment for lots of people, especially those who have been following Kofi throughout his career. It would mean that we’d be one step closer to WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.
Big E has been killing it lately. His promos have been fire lately, and his in-ring work is nothing to laugh at. In a team with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, Big E has managed to avoid getting overshadowed when they wrestle.
In most ladder matches, Big E would stick out like a priest in a mosque, However, this is no ordinary ladder match. Braun Strowman will be there. Rusev will be there. Either Samoa Joe or Big Cass (but for real, it’s gotta be Joe) will be in it as well. That’s a lot of hosses. Big E would fit right in. Just some big dudes beating the hell out of each other with ladders. No high-flying or jumping off the ladder or anything like that. Just a straight up brawl.
If Big E had the contract, that would be crazy, but in a good way. He shows a lot more personality than he did back in his earlier days as Intercontinental Champion. New Day turned him into the star that he is. Without the New Day, Big E probably would have ended up in Roman Reigns’ spot and still be boring.
It’s clear that Big E is a big deal. With the contract, he could be the star he is meant to be.
