Why Saudi Arabian Fans Likely Reacted To Seeing Carmella They Way They Did

There was a bit of controversy when a promo for Backlash accidentally played for the live crowd at the Greatest Royal Rumble event. This promo showed females and the Saudi Arabian Sports Authority has already spoken out against this distancing themselves and really throwing WWE under the bus in the process.

But it was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that fans in the building popped when seeing Carmella on the screen in her one-piece wrestling gear because they had likely never seen her before.

It was noted that all female action is edited out of their programming so unless fans are getting versions of the show that aren’t approved by the Saudi Arabian powers that be, they would have had no knowledge of who Carmella even was. They just saw a woman on the screen and cheered.
