At Wrestlemania 34, a whole bunch of people will compete in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Everyone, from dudes who only appear on house shows, to Dolph Ziggler, will be in the fabled match. There are a lot of moving parts in this piece. There’s no clear favorite.
All that said, some people have more of a chance than others. Who will be the last man standing?
Yes, everyone’s favorite almost-main-eventer-but-still-mostly-a-midcarder, Baron Corbin, will be competing in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The way it stands right now, Corbin is an easy favorite to win. Could Corbin win and become the first ever two-time winner of the match?
While WWE isn’t exactly consistent when it comes to Corbin’s momentum, they’ve shown that they’re willing to give him some. He’s a former Mr. Money in the Bank, and he’s a former United States Champion. He’s competed in more WWE Championship matches than Sami Zayn, and he has more one-on-one matches for the WWE Championship than Kevin Owens.
While Corbin’s momentum is hardly ever sustained, he could easily win the battle royal and use it to further his character.
Yes, I think that Tye Dillinger has a chance of winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Despite the fact that Tye’s only appeared on TV maybe fifteen times since debuting last year, he might actually win. Despite the rumors that WWE doesn’t like the “Ten” chants (again, I also read this site), he might actually win. After all, Dillinger does have a PPV match against AJ Styles to his name.
Since no one really cares about the Battle Royal, someone like Tye could win. He’s harmless enough, a decent hand in the ring, and an over babyface. It would most definitely be a shock to most people, given that Dillinger’s only won like five of his sixteen TV matches (excluding PPVs).
The crowd would pop for it, and if they actually don’t have anything in mind for the winner, you could do worse than a face like Dillinger.
Zack Ryder is in the same boat as Dillinger. He’s over to an extent (people still love Ryder). It’d be a feel-good moment, which is exactly what Wrestlemania’s all about. It’s not like WWE completely hates Ryder. They gave him the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania 32.
Again, people would pop for it. No one would expect it at all. While there are no clear favorites to win the match, Ryder isn’t one of them. It’d be Ryder’s third Wrestlemania Moment™ (the second being him winning the Intercontinental Championship, and the first being him getting kicked in the balls by Eve Torres).
While it’s too much to hope for, this might also lead to a bit of a push. Maybe Ryder uses the momentum to beat some lower-card guys and then challenges for the United States Championship or something. We’ll see.
After WWE somehow failed to follow up on the Ultimate Deletion, Matt Hardy will find himself competing in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He’s easily one of the biggest names in the match, and while that doesn’t guarantee a win for him, it might.
Hardy could easily use the momentum to develop his character into something more than “weirdo who laughs and threw Bray Wyatt into the Lake of Reincarnation.” He could become a threat. He propels himself up the card by defeating some goons and then maybe challenging for the Intercontinental or even Universal Championship. Remember that Broken Matt Hardy was an upper-card figure back in Impact Wrestling. There’s no reason he couldn’t do the same in WWE.
