It’s important to distinguish between brands and it seems NXT is copying the main roster, but in reality, it’s the other way around because they tape months ahead of time in Full Sail University while the main roster has the luxury of building week-to-week.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio how he asked Triple H on the conference call about the fact that SmackDown Live seemed to steal NXT’s big stipulation for WrestleMania. After all, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are in a match where if Ciampa wins Gargano is gone from NXT for good but if Johnny Wrestling can pull off the win, then he gets to come back. This is pretty much the same stipulation as Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn only the main roster’s match is a tag team contest.

“so [Triple H’s] thing was ‘I can’t change it because I’m already locked and then they go and do the same thing,” Meltzer said. “So that’s kinda how he explained it and then he said, ‘you know I asked them if they were gonna do a ladder match and they said no.'”

Meltzer said it sounds to him like Triple H asked if they were booking a ladder match at Mania and they told him, no. But now they could be doing one anyway with the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

“I don’t wanna say [Triple H] is frustrated but it is what it is and that’s just what it is,” Meltzer continued. “So if [a WrestleMania ladder match] gets announced then that’s what he’s referring to and if it doesn’t then there is no ladder match, there’s only gonna be a ladder match [at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans].”

But regardless of whether they let NXT have an original idea for once, Meltzer went on to say ROH is still holding their own ladder match on WrestleMania weekend anyway.
