While discussing Rey Mysterio’s appearance at Saturday’s New Japan Long Beach Show, Dave Meltzer indicated the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that Mysterio would possibly be working three matches for the company before he heading to WWE.
“At least 3 Rey Mysterio matches. He said that he wanted to wrestle Liger, Will Ospreay — Will Ospreay challenged Rey. Rey wanted to wrestle Liger because he felt he owed that match. Marty Scurll came out and unmasked Rey. So you got those three matches. Ospreay challenge him for the Junior title, so I would figure that one of those matches would be at the Cow Palace and probably one of them would be a Dominion. Maybe they will do another one at the Dontaku show. They could still start him on WWE TV and have him do the matches he’s committed to. I mean, it is possible that they do that.”
It was reported last week that Mysterio visited WWE’s doctors to have his torn biceps checked out and the impression is that he will still continue to work out a WWE deal. However, Meltzer believes that Mysterio likely won’t be appearing for New Japan until later this Summer.
“More unlikely than not, if Rey comes in and it’s still an if, we’re talking the fall or late summer.”
We will keep you updated on Mysterio’s status with WWE.
