Elimination Chamber takes place this Sunday and it is one of the company’s best chances to set up matches for Wrestlemania 34. The Raw brand has been firing on all cylinders since the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber should be a top quality show.

One complaint fans have had concerning the event, however, is that the show, on paper at least, is far too predictable. The two chambers matches feel easy to predict, and as a result, are lacking in drama, while the undercard feels pretty forced together.

You can never count the WWE out, though, and there is every chance that they have plenty of surprises in store for us this Sunday. Let’s take a six seriously unlikely twists we could see at the Elimination Chamber.

1: Sasha Wins the Women’s Title

Sasha Banks has been on fire as of late, and the WWE needs to find a way to get her onto the Wrestlemania card. The rumoured plans for this year’s event in New Orleans have changed quite a lot, and it is becoming difficult to keep up with what is supposedly going to happen.

Current rumours have Nia Jax challenging Alexa for the Raw’s Women’s Title at Mania, but what if the company decided to change that, and go with Sasha Vs Asuka instead? The two women put on one of Raw’s best matches this year a few weeks ago, and the company have been known to change their plans at short notice when they realise two superstars have such a great chemistry in the ring together.

Asuka is currently rumoured to be facing Charlotte at Mania, and that seems like the best women’s match the company has to offer, but would Sasha Vs Alexa really be such a bad idea? Sasha would make for an awesome heel, and having her become obsessed with the idea of defeating Asuka, in a similar vein to Shawn Michael’s obsession with The Undertaker from Wrestlemania 26, would make for some excellent viewing.

2: Brother Nero Makes his Debut

The verdict is still out on the Woken Matt Hardy gimmick in the WWE. Fans had waited so long to see Matt bring his broken brilliance into the company, and despite some initial hype, the WWE has not really managed to capitalise on it in the way many expected.

While many suspect Matt will finally defeat Wyatt on Sunday, I think he will lose yet again. His character has become increasingly unstable after each defeat, and one more defeat should finally get him to go from ‘woken’ to fully ‘broken’.

There is another possibility though, and that is Jeff Hardy returning as Brother Nero at the Elimination Chamber. This could happen even if Matt is defeated, with Brother Nero coming back to remind Matt of his own broken brilliance. This, in turn, could lead to the arrival of the full broken universe as Matt sets out to finally delete Bray at Wrestlemania.

3: Nia Jax Defeats Asuka

When the WWE announced this match, I couldn’t help but scratch my head. If rumours are to be believed, Nia Jax is set to challenge Alexa Bliss at Wrestlemania, and if that is the case, then why have her lose to Asuka at the Elimination Chamber?

Make no mistake about this, I can’t see Asuka losing on Sunday night, but that isn’t to say the WWE isn’t silly enough to do it. Remember how they just ruined two streaks on the PPV before Mania last year? Braun Strowman was defeated cleanly by Roman Reigns, and Charlotte’s unbeaten PPV streak was brought to a grinding halt by Bayley, just weeks before Wrestlemania. Now, it seems highly unlikely the company would be stupid enough to end Asuka’s streak here, and a no-decision would be a more logical way of keeping Nia looking strong for her match with Alexa, but I really can’t help but think the company have written themselves into a corner with this one.

4: The Rock Returns

Following Ronda Rousey’s arrival at the Royal Rumble, rumours instantly surfaced online that she would be teaming with The Rock at Wrestlemania to take on the team of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Those rumours have died recently, with many sites reporting that The Rock, unsurprisingly, is otherwise occupied.

The prospect of a Rock and Rousey team up, though, would mean big money for the WWE and from a storyline perspective, it would make a lot of sense as a continuation of their in-ring segment from Wrestlemania 31.

This is highly unlikely, but if it did happen, you could guarantee The Rock would get the biggest pop in the event’s history.

5: The Undertaker Returns

The Undertaker’s appearance at Raw 25 was ambiguous, to say the least. The Deadman came to the ring, spoke about legends he had defeated, then just left.

Many fans were expecting the promo to set up a match between John Cena and The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, but that never came to fruition.

The belief now is that the company wanted to wait for a little while to set up the match, and if that is the case, Taker could make his grand return and cost Cena at the Elimination Chamber. There are multiple problems with this, though, as from a storyline perspective, it makes little sense for The Undertaker to just cost Cena the belt.

Cena has been talking about his lack of a road to Wrestlemania, and it would make sense if, following defeat in the Chamber, Cena came out to address that issue once again, only for Taker to arrive and challenge him. Still, expect to see everyone claiming they spotted Taker at the airport this coming Sunday night, and who knows, maybe this time, they will be right.

6: Anybody other than Roman Reigns Wins

Before the ink was even dry on Wrestlemania 33, plans were already in place for Roman Reigns to challenge Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 34. The company have spent a whole year building towards the match, so it would be a massive twist if they decided to swerve us on the last PPV before the event.

Aside from Roman though, who could you see feasably winning this match? There is an argument to be made for Braun Strowman, but many fans would point to his lacklustre match with Brock at No Mercy as to why that isn’t likely to happen. Finn Balor and Seth Rollins are the real dark horses, the two men were both added last to the event and are both slowly starting to gain momentum, especially Rollins. A triple threat at Mania, involving both Roman and Rollins would make sense considering the way Wrestlemania 31 ended. Again, though, this is highly unlikely.

Then, of course, there is big match John. Cena is on the brink of a WWE record, and one more title win, on the grandest stage of them all, against the man who has had the better of him for most of his career, would be a fitting way for him to break that record.

Who am I kidding? Roman is definitely winning.
