Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is looking to capitalize off Ronda Rousey’s popularity to help elevate Stephanie McMahon into a bigger mainstream star.
The belief is that if they place Stephanie in a high profile match, he could help elevate her popularity similar to how the company elevated Vince McMahon during the Attitude Era by having him work with Steve Austin.
“Rousey is a major sports star. The idea that she was the single most searched female athlete in the U.S. on the Internet in 2017, a year she never competed and for the most part laid low in, speaks volumes,” Meltzer explained. “The idea for the program is to make Stephanie a star outside of just the pro wrestling world.”
As previously noted, WWE plans to have Stephanie McMahon tag with her husband Triple H to face Ronda Rousey with another male Superstar. There has been talk of having either The Rock, which is ideal to make this match “over-the-top”, or Braun Strowman who could also benefit from the rub.
