As seen at Sunday’s Royal Rumble event, Mojo Rawley answered Bobby Roode’s Open Challenge for the United States Championship title. It was reported via Wrestling Observer on Monday that original plans for the match called for Dolph Ziggler to answer the challenge but we have now learned that WWE had another opponent in mind besides Ziggler.

Dave Meltzer reported on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that there were plans at one point on Sunday for Adam Cole to be the individual to answer Bobby Roode’s challenge. These plans were ultimately changed when an official in the company decided it wouldn’t be a good idea for Cole to answer the challenge only to lose in an eight minute match to Roode’s Glorious DDT.
