Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host, Phoenix Marie.
Ryback opens today’s show by answering a couple of fan questions. The first listener asks Ryback when he started to become “The Big Guy”, or if he was always big. Ryback informs that he began doing push-ups at age 12 and soon transitioned into lifting weights. He was always in shape, but as he transitioned into a Sophomore in high school he had a growth spurt and got so big that his classmates accused him of taking steroids during the summer break.
Another listener writes into the show and asks Ryback if he takes any multivitamins. Ryback informs that he does take a multivitamin, but he’s never been able to take digestive enzymes. He recalls trying to take a digestive enzyme one day when he was working in WWE in an attempt to absorb more of the protein he was eating, but he became violently ill. He had that night off from wrestling anyways, but if he was booked to wrestle he fears he would have actually had to call in sick.
Ryback comments on WWE’s signing of Ricochet. He informs that he has met Ricochet in the past and thought he was a great guy. He’s very happy for Ricochet that he’s getting an opportunity to showcase his talents in WWE, and he’s sure that Ricochet will learn a lot about the psychological and storytelling side of the business in WWE.
He thinks that the business has a huge issue today, with a lot of independent wrestlers working so fast that they forget to sell moves. He points out that when casual fans see this, it ruins the image of professional wrestling because it doesn’t look believable at all. You can do whatever you want in the ring as long as you don’t break certain age-old rules of wrestling, such as making it look believable through selling.
The strange thing about this in Ryback’s opinion, is that all of the crazy moves that these individuals perform on a nightly basis look amazing. If only they’d choose to sell each other’s offence more, those crazy moves would be even more impressive.
Ryback comments on the return of Seth Rollins’ Curb Stomp this past week. He mentions that the move appears to be renamed, “Blackout” now, and he was happy to see this move return. He’s taken this move several times in the past and he always liked it. He thinks Rollins will benefit from having his original finisher back.
Ryback congratulates Bobby Roode on winning the United States Title on Smackdown Live last week. This is Roode’s first Title win in WWE and Ryback is very happy for him. He adds that this Title win will do nothing but help Roode as his WWE career progresses.
Ryback mentions that Roman Reigns’ name was brought up in a steroid scandal over the last week, but he doesn’t think there’s any credibility to this story at all. He points out that Reigns is obviously in great shape but he doesn’t look like a guy on steroids at all. He also points out that Reigns’ accuser failed to provide any proof or even go into any detail in terms of what supplements Reigns purchased from him.
Ryback says that Reigns has successfully passed multiple WWE drug tests since being suspended last year, and although WWE’s Wellness Policy definitely has holes in it in some areas, they do a great job of taking care of the wrestlers overall.
Marie closes today’s show by congratulating Ryback on the announcement that he’ll be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Ryback isn’t amused, as Phoenix is obviously poking fun at the similarities between him and Goldberg, this year’s actual Hall of Fame inductee. Ryback adds that Goldberg is certainly a deserving inductee and he’s happy for him.
That sums up today’s episode of Conversation With the Big Guy. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
