Edge and Christian open today’s show speaking about the announcement of the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble match. Christian thinks that this is another great step in the right direction for women’s professional wrestling, and Edge completely agrees. Edge thinks that it’s only a matter of time before the Women main event WrestleMania, and that historic match might even piggyback off of this Rumble match.

Edge welcomes his wife, Beth Phoenix to the show to discuss this huge announcement. Phoenix says that hearing this announcement was one of the proudest moments in her professional life. During her time in WWE, all the women felt like they could sell tickets like the men but they weren’t presented in a situation to do so. She’s happy for this generation of women’s wrestlers who finally have that opportunity.

Phoenix informs that her phone has been blowing up since this announcement with questions regarding her potential return for this Rumble. She mentions that it’s a great feeling to receive those messages and questions, and this just proves that there’s a bunch of buzz surrounding this match.

Edge adds that there’s a ton of diversity in this match from a visual and physicality standpoint, and that makes for a very interesting Rumble match in his opinion. Phoenix agrees and adds that she’s a big fan of Nia Jax who finds a way to exude beauty while still kicking ass every night of the week.

In terms of picking a winner, Phoenix mentions that this could be a cool opportunity for Natalya to debut a new, more vicious side of her character, especially after cutting that mysterious promo a couple of weeks ago. She ultimately chooses Paige as her winner, because she thinks Paige has a ton of momentum right now coming off her long-awaited return.

Edge & Christian welcome The Singh Brothers to the show.

The Singhs inform that they started their wrestling training in Canada, and performed on some of Tony Condello’s Northern Death Tours. Edge and Christian are veterans of those tours as well, and they all agree that those tours were far from fancy, and they required a lot of Kraft Dinner in order to stay fed.

Eleven years after working on those tours they finally got the WWE contracts that they were looking for, and it was an amazing moment for them. Prior to that, they got a big break when they received a call from Jeff Jarrett and TNA Wrestling, when TNA officials saw a video of them dancing and cutting a promo online.

They joke that Jarrett probably Google searched, “Indian Wrestlers dancing” and found a video of them. They both believe that having each other to lean on helped them during the many years that they struggled on the indies. Christian mentions that he and Edge had a similar bond, and that helped them throughout their career as well.

The Singh Brothers mention that they also trust each other which helps them become better in the ring. They don’t have to hold back with each other when being critical of each other’s performance, and that type of honesty allows them to improve on a nightly basis.

They inform that competing in the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic was a terrific experience for them, even though they were both eliminated in round one. Obviously their performances during the round one matches caught someone’s attention at WWE because they were called to work a few dark matches shortly thereafter.

They add that they were so accustomed to working on the indies that they weren’t prepared for a lot of the subtleties that are required for workers in NXT and WWE, such as working the hard camera. They admit to basically knowing nothing about the television side of the business before working for WWE.

They also admit that they both lost some confidence after their stint on 205Live, partially due to their inexperience working television matches. They credit several trainers at the Performance Centre such as Norman Smiley and Shawn Michaels for working with them and helping them regain their confidence.

Edge suspects that someone like Shawn Michaels probably noticed The Singh Brothers and wanted to help them given how much effort they had put into making it to WWE. This is probably the same reason that WWE called them to return after they were both eliminated in round one of the Cruiserweight Classic. Their passion for the business is obvious, and that counts for something in WWE.

That sums up this week’s episode of E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
