X-Pac open’s today’s show speaking about Ric Flair’s 30 for 30 documentary. He says he was blown away by the film and the authenticity with which Flair approached the project. He says that the Flair we saw in that film is exactly the way Flair was, and still is in most ways. He says there is no such thing as Richard Fleer, or at least there hasn’t been for an awfully long time.
As a father, this film really hit close to home in a lot of ways for X-Pac. He says becoming a professional wrestler is a very selfish decision, due to the negative effect it has on you wife, your kids, and your family as a whole. He thought the film was ‘heartbreaking’ when it touched on Flair’s children, and it made him think a lot about the effect the business had on his own kids.
Speaking about the upcoming bout between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho at WrestleKingdom, X-Pac says that he’s sure WWE wasn’t thrilled to hear about it and he really doubts Vince McMahon is behind this in any way. Reports of McMahon playing a role in all of this is simply people speculating in X-Pac’s opinion.
X-Pac touches on how tough Vince McMahon is, and recalls the time McMahon crashed his motorcycle. McMahon was apparently thrown 50 feet from his motorcycle when a driver cut in front of him and this resulted in him breaking his pelvis. Most performers safely assumed that McMahon wouldn’t make the next television tapings but they were wrong. McMahon showed up to the tapings and checked his wheelchair at the door because he wouldn’t let anyone see him in a wheelchair.
X-Pac welcomes former WWE Superstar, Pete Gas to the show.
Speaking about his good friend, Shane McMahon’s recent helicopter crash, Gas informs that he was at work when all of a sudden his phone started blowing up. People were asking him if Shane was okay but he didn’t know what they were talking about. He immediately checked the news and couldn’t believe his eyes. He called Shane and Shane answered which was quite a relief. Shane told him that he was okay and Gas was very relieved.
He points out that Shane always says he’s okay, even when he’s injured. After Shane’s recent Hell in A Cell match with Kevin Owens, Gas called him to check on him. Shane told him he was okay, but Gas would later find out that Shane had cracked several ribs.
Gas shares a story about the time Vince McMahon said he was proud of him. He points out that after the Mean Street Posse became regulars in WWE and signed contracts, he was no longer allowed to ride with Shane. He was riding with Rodney one night when Shane called him. Shane told Rodney to put him on speaker phone because Vince was there and had something to say to them.
McMahon said that they had recently been involved in the highest rated 15-minute wrestling segment in cable history. He told them he was proud of them and that’s something Gas will never forget. He says that was the only time McMahon told them he was proud of them, but he still gets goosebumps when he tells that story.
Gas informs that Bob Holly recently pulled him aside at a convention and told him he was a ‘tough SOB’. Holly told Gas that when he and Rodney first signed with WWE, Holly and the other WWE Superstars would try to ‘break’ them each and every night. Holly said there were some nights when he legitimately punched Gas to see if he’d complain, but they never did. Gas and Rodney paid their dues in the business, and Holly respected them for that.
X-Pac asks Gas if he has any regrets in the wrestling business. Gas says he regrets not being able to work with Triple H in the ring and to learn from him in a match because he thinks Triple H is brilliant. He also mentions that he took a Stone Cold Stunner from Austin at MSG one night and Austin was reportedly unhappy with the way he took the move. Apparently this led to Austin not wanting to work with him much after that. He says apologizing to Austin for that is still on his bucket list and he’s determined to make that happen someday.
