As seen on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship in the main event of the show.

Dave Meltzer discussed the victory on the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and mentioned that lower viewership from the Halloween episode of SmackDown and low interest in the Survivor Series pay-per-view match attributed to Vince McMahon changing the plans for Brock Lesnar’s next opponent.

Meltzer also speculated that there is a chance that Mahal could actually win back the WWE Championship Title sometime after Survivor Series. If the company does plan on putting the title back on Mahal, it would probably take place before the company heads to India in December.

Bryan Alvarez presented a scenario on Wrestling Observer Live that would see Mahal challenge Styles when the company heads to India and wins back the title there. It wouldn’t be the first time a title changed hands at a WWE Live Event.
