Dave Meltzer discussed Summer Rae’s release on a recent installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and indicated that part of the reason why the company decided to release her is because the role that WWE envisioned for her when she was first signed is not one which they believe she can make work at this stage of her career.
When the company first brought her in, the belief is that she would be a major star similar to how Stacy Keilber was. The older she got, the more the company didn’t see her in the same light anymore. Several of her failed storylines didn’t help her case with the big one being with Rusev. Her release was pretty much imminent after that failed storyline.
