Curtis Axel Is a Former Intercontinental Champion
Curtis Axel wasn’t even the worst champion ever. Sure, he was constantly overshadowed by CM Punk, but he held the title for 155 days (around 5 months). He defended the title against the likes of Wade Barrett, Kofi Kingston, and Chris Jericho. In fact, in his reign, he successfully defended the title 8 times. While none of this really means anything, it shows that Curtis Axel has experience as a champion. This can translate into a more successful 2nd run with the title.
Sure, Curtis has never been the most exciting wrestler. He’s not the most charismatic guy either. But he’s old-school. He grew up in this business. He understands the art of wrestling. There’s more to it than just spots and violence. There’s got to be a story. That’s something his father most likely taught him.
When the time comes for Curtis to drop the title to the next upcoming heel or face, he’s going to make it worth it. There are so many stories to tell. The grizzled veteran holding on to what he’s got. The son trying to live up to his father’s legacy.
Even if he’s just going to be a transitional champion, he would make the best of the opportunity given to him. And it’s not like the crowds don’t like him. People love him. He was one of the highlights of Raw this week. He’s been consistently entertaining.
Making him the next Intercontinental Champion isn’t the worst idea ever.
