Russo adds that WCW officials were putting such a high importance on television ratings and he started to become frustrated. As a result of this, Russo figured he’d just get in front of the camera himself so he could spike the ratings. As the old saying goes, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.
The next caller asks Russo if he was involved in writing WWE’s Bret Hart anti-American storyline in the mid-90’s. Russo says that he was still in the middle of transitioning from writing the WWE Magazine at that time so he wasn’t really involved in the creative of that storyline. He says he began writing for the creative team shortly thereafter.
Another listener calls into the show and asks Russo about the lack of originality and creativity in today’s entrance music. The caller says Jason Jordan’s entrance music is a perfect example of this. Russo agrees and says that back in the day Jim Johnson gave personality and originality to each character through their entrance music, but today’s music is all cookie cutter and nobody stands out.
