2. Dean Ambrose v. Seth Rollins (Hell in a Cell, 2014)
Of all the Hell in a Cell matches that took place in 2014 (there were only 2), this was the one that felt like it truly belonged inside Satan’s Favorite Playground Structure. Rollins infamously whacked his Shield brothers in the back with a chair, and Ambrose was livid. They feuded for the greater part of the summer. A lumberjack match was not enough to contain the hatred between the two, so they were locked inside a cage like animals.
There’s a lot to like in this match. Some may not like the stereo announce table bumps, but I thought they were cool. Both men were really out for blood here. There was a kendo stick, lots of chairs, and tables. Long story short, this was a violent, hateful match.
The main thing stopping it from being the best is the needless Bray Wyatt interference. It really sucked the life out of the match and ended it on a sour note. Had the match ended properly, then we’d be speaking a bit more highly about it.
