Curt Henning fought The Giant (Big Show) in the main event of the show. Hausman mentions that Henning threw The Giant around the ring a little big during this match, even delivering a “Perfect Plex” at one point. Bischoff admits that it was controversial backstage to have The Giant leave his feet this much, but he was never one to really follow ‘old school’ rules.
He also adds that The Giant’s athleticism made him a much different performer than most other giants, and this allowed him to more complicated things in the ring. For this reason, Bischoff didn’t have any issue asking Giant to bump more than the average big man.
A listener writes into the show and asks Bischoff about WWE’s dwindling live attendance. Bischoff says that you have to take the time of year into account because with kids going back to school and major sports such as football beginning, there’s just not a lot of time for most people to attend wrestling shows. On the other hand, he believes that WWE needs to take some responsibility here.
He also doesn’t rule out the lack of pyro as a reason for some fans not attending live events. He says that if the NFL started to cheapen the Superbowl’s presentation, people would start to tune out over time. WWE is obviously not attempting to hurt their live event presentation, but by cutting something like pyro they’ve cut one of many things that make up the whole ‘show’.
That sums up today’s episode of Bischoff on Wrestling. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
