Lane points out that Enzo Amore was attacked by the entire cruiserweight division after Monday Night RAW last week. Russo assumes this was a rib on Amore, and Vince McMahon was probably in the Gorilla Position laughing as he sent each guy out one after another to attack Amore. Gilbertti points out that it was impossible to tell who was the babyface or the heel in this scenario, and that can be said for most programs on WWE television today.
He says the only genuine babyfaces on WWE’s roster right now are The Hardy Boyz and Rollins/Ambrose. Top stars like Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, John Cena and Roman Reigns are all ‘grey’ characters who garner mixed reactions from audiences, and he believes this is as a result of inconsistent booking from WWE creative.
Russo says that when he wrote for WWE during the attitude era there was a lot of ‘grey’ in characters as well, but those characters were always consistent in how they acted. It seems that characters act differently from week to week now, and there have been several occasions when a character did something that Russo felt was outside the personality traits of that character.
That sums up today’s episode of Vince Russo’s The Brand. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
