Cyrus informs that he was thrown into the colour commentary position on the indie scene, then ECW and finally in WWE. What he really liked about doing colour commentary is that all the talents liked and respected him because they knew he was there to get them over. He says the key to commentary is to get talents over primarily, but guys like Ventura and Heenan managed to get themselves over as well.
Madden mentions that Corey Graves is a great colour commentator, but he thinks Graves could be even better if WWE officials and Vince McMahon would stop over-producing him. Madden knows that Heenan would never have dealt well with someone producing him in his ear, and he certainly wouldn’t have been as effective overall.
Madden recalls having Terry Taylor, Ed Ferrara and others in his ear during his time working in WCW, and that became overwhelming at times. He said that if those guys couldn’t trust him to go out there and do his job, then he didn’t really want to be a part of it.
That sums up today’s episode of Talk is Jericho. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap.
