Cena knows that he’s not going to be able to wrestle forever, and he told himself many years ago that once he started to slow down in the ring he would hang up his boots. He doesn’t think he’s at that point just yet, but he knows that date is approaching.
Cena says he is loyal to WWE and Vince McMahon to a fault, and he’d do anything for McMahon. However, both he and McMahon are aware of the fact that Cena might not be able to work a full time schedule anymore. He’s far from retired, but whether he had outside opportunities or not, he’d be considering a part-time schedule at this point.
He says it’s time now for a new generation of performers to step up to the plate and replace him as the face of the company. He adds that he is often incorrectly labeled as someone who buries younger talent, when in reality he believes he brings the best out of performers, and when they’re done with him they get lost in the shuffle. He says it’s up to those guys to finish one program and then up their game as they move onto the next one.
That sums up today’s episode of E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
