Edge says that in watching the recent promo battles between Cena and Roman Reigns he could tell that Reigns was in the deep end, but he managed to swim at the end of it. Cena says that his issue with Reigns being positioned at the top of WWE was his lack of ability to communicate with the WWE Universe. There’s no doubt that Reigns is a great guy and has a real presence about him, but his promo work needed to improve.
Cena admits that there’s a professional tension and a respectable rivalry between him and Reigns, similar to how it was between him and The Rock. In both cases the veteran was determined to hold on to the top spot, and the younger talent was determined to take that spot away. Cena says that he went out to the ring week after week to rip Reigns and to find out whether he was still the top guy, or if Reigns was ready to take that spot away.
Cena gets goosebumps as he says that Reigns really stepped up to the plate in the last promo he cut on RAW on the go home show before No Mercy. He says that Reigns thought of the idea to use Cena’s words from 2012 against him in that promo and he was very proud of Reigns for going home, putting the work in, and hitting that promo out of the park.
Christian asks Cena about the possibility of facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Cena says that every single year the goal is to put the best possible show on paper that will make WrestleMania as good as it can be, and that match was never a part of the best case scenario for WrestleMania. He says that wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania is any wrestler’s dream but if the company needs him to do something else, that’s exactly what he’s going to do.
