John Cena appeared on RAW PPV exclusive post-show RAW Talk after losing to Roman Reigns at WWE No Mercy where he talked about his future with the WWE.
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler asked Cena whether he is retiring from the WWE, Cena said that his role in WWE is different now. The 16 time champion says that he is not planning to retire as of now though, but he is unsure that he can keep going at the same pace as he did in his 15 year career.
“I just think my role is different. I had a podcast with Edge and Christian and I said the same thing- regardless of whether I have outside opportunities or not, I’m 40 years old and I have 15 years of track experience here in the WWE, and not at a normal level, at an elite level, and I don’t know how much longer I can keep it up. If I have opportunities outside, great, if I didn’t, I think… I gotta know when to say when at that point, and I’m not done, but I don’t know if I can keep going at the pace that I’ve been going.”
After his loss at No Mercy to Roman Reigns, Cena’s actions post-match lead to speculation that Cena is retiring and fans tweeted “#ThankYouCena”, along with the official WWE Universe Twitter account, adding more speculation.
