As well as how much prominence and significance Miz has brought to the title, there is also just how much he has improved. It has been clear over the past 5/6 years that The Miz has put in exceptional amounts of work. Especially in the last 2/3. He pushed through the trials and tribulations of his early career and the fan dismay of his WWE championship run and has morphed himself into a solid worker with excellent psychology with mic skills almost second to none, a star like charisma a swagger and a drive about him that makes him look and feel important and above all else is one of, if not the only true heel in WWE left today. The work he has put in deserves reward and breaking such a long standing and quite fantastic record is quite the reward.
The actual content of The Miz’s work over the past year and a half is astounding also. Just look at any Talking Smack involving him, he was simply impeccable. His in ring segments, his promo’s, his ‘Miz TV’ segments and his feuds on Smackdown Live wee all simply fantastic. long with AJ Styles, Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens he was the absolute star of 2016. This form has continued now into 2017, when Miz appears on RAW it feels important. And more often than not it is absolute gold and he continues to be one of 2017’s best. The Miz has the innate ability to make any segment he is involved in better and that is one hell of a talent to have.
Just think of the storyline potential as well of having The Miz break this record. The cockiness, the arrogance, the swagger and the absolute disdain fans will have for it all. Absolutely fantastic. The Miz will make this record seem like the most important record that has ever stood. That in itself will only serve to increase the stock of The Miz and the Intercontinental Championship. There are only winners in this whole scenario. He can hold that championship until Wrestlemania and WWE can build a real story round The Miz and how someone must dethrone him and fans will legitimately invest and, due to his unbelievable ability to hold a crowd in the palm of his hand, The Miz will make people pay to see him get his ass kicked and his title taken from him. That itself is a rarity The Miz brings to the surface.
Logically as well The Miz makes the most sense. Closest to The Miz on list of accumulative reigns are Shelton Benjamin, Jeff Hardy and Dolph Ziggler in terms of active, full time WWE stars and none of they men will have 300 days worth of Intercontinental Championship reign in the rest of their careers. The Miz is so close to this record and has done so much and will do so much in the future to deserve it. Unless WWE wants to spend a decade naturally building someone through numerous or lengthy Intercontinental title reigns then this record simply will naturally go to The Miz and so it should. But WWE must present that as the big deal it truly is, especially to The Miz.
The Miz has earned this record. Following his eventual loss of the Intercontinental Championship The Miz should move to Smackdown and go on the hunt for the WWE title. He is a main event level talent and deserves to write the wrongs of his past title run. But before that this record is a must. It will solidify him as the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time which, in my opinion, he already is. What the Miz has done with the title, and what he will do with this record he breaks is unbelievable. Going forward we can expect me fantastic work by The Miz because that seems to be all he can do. Let’s just hope that the Intercontinental Championship can stay on the level it is on when The Miz finally passes it on for good.
