Russo doesn’t understand how WWE has gone from ‘strong style’ to ‘stronger style’ over the last few years, when they should be going the other way given all the technology and facts we have related to head trauma and concussions. If WWE didn’t have that knowledge it’d be impossible to blame them, but when they blatantly ignore it week after week, something needs to be said.
Vito recalls the match between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton from a few months ago, when Orton was legitimately concussed from Lesnar’s ground and pound. This was also just after Lesnar was coming off of a failed UFC drug test, and WWE claimed that since he was a part-timer it didn’t matter. Vito says that rules are supposed to be the same for everybody.
He continues by saying that the effects of concussions and head trauma aren’t really known until years later, so who’s to say that Orton won’t feel the effects of those shoot forearms 10 years down the road? Russo says there’s only one justifiable reason why WWE would continue to ignore the facts and put their performers in harms way: they just don’t care about them.
That sums up today’s episode of Vince Russo’s The Brand. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
