Russo thought the match between Cena and Strowman was fine, but he simply can’t understand how Lesnar didn’t get involved here. He also couldn’t understand why a match as big as Cena versus Strowman didn’t close the show.
Getting into his analysis of Smackdown Live, Russo says he enjoyed a number of things about the opening segment. He thought Owens had a number of clever lines during his promo and even though he hates this new Dolph Ziggler gimmick, he thought Ziggler’s entrance as Shane McMahon was a unique way to incorporate him into the opening segment.
Russo says that it doesn’t matter how many false finishes you put in the match, there’s no way Tye Dillinger was going to be A.J. Styles. This is another example of how WWE thinks they’re going to get talents over simply by putting them in the position to have great matches, but Russo says that doesn’t work.
He adds that WWE is really struggling to keep talents over right now. There are no storylines right now so when you rely solely on matches to keep talents over it becomes an impossible task. One talent has to lose every week so without storylines, a performer like Naomi goes from Women’s Champion one week to mid-carder the next.
