Moore asks Hart about their match at SummerSlam 1993. Lawler broke a steel crutch over Hart’s back that night, and Hart said that was such a stiff shot that he thought Lawler was legitimately trying to kill him. When he finally got Lawler in the Sharpshooter to end the segment he held the submission for almost five minutes. Hart says that was definitely a receipt for the crutch shot earlier in the match.
Lawler says he definitely wasn’t trying to kill him. He knew the crutch was steel so he wanted to make sure he bent the steel around Hart’s back. Unfortunately, the steel buckled on impact and swung around hitting Hart in the face.
Hart says he believes Vince McMahon made a mistake by buying out all of his competition in the 80’s and 90’s. He felt that WWE went out of their way to crush all the smaller territories, and he doesn’t believe that was in their best interest. Hart feels WWE would have been better served keeping his father’s Calgary promotion open as a developmental territory, where future WWE talents could cut their teeth.
That sums up today’s episode of Dinner With the King. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
