There was a lot of good stuff on Raw. You had Brock Lesnar actually speak into a microphone. There was the verbal evisceration of Roman Reigns by John Cena. Still, one thing sticks out like a sore thumb. During the main event, fans who were hoping to see Sasha Banks make her first successful title defense had their hopes dashed. Instead, Alexa Bliss reclaimed the title to become a two-time Raw Women’s Championship (which makes her a four-time Champion, same as Charlotte and Banks). Now everyone will watch on as Bliss defends her title against former-best-friend-now-bitter-enemy Nia Jax.
One does have to ask: is WWE’s infatuation with Bliss hurting their product?
Other Wrestlers Have Suffered Because of Alexa
It’s getting ridiculous now. Obviously Alexa is not to blame here (unless it’s discovered that she’s Hulk Hogan 2.0, but highly unlikely), but her constant presence in the title picture is creating some problems. The biggest one is how WWE makes everyone else look like a fool so that Bliss can look good.
Think back to December – February last year. Becky Lynch was the Inaugural Smackdown Women’s Champion, but then she dropped the title to Ms. 5 Feet of Fury. During the feud, Becky Lynch got betrayed by her own alternate identity (La Luchadora), and Bliss always found a way to weasel out of defeat. Whatever, that’s fine. That’s what heels do.
The Superstar Shake-Up comes. Bliss gets drafted to Raw, where she immediately dethrones Bayley, who is admittedly dead in the water. Throughout their feud, Bliss runs her mouth and makes fun of Bayley for being a virgin (that’s not even a joke). There’s the dreadful “This is Your Life” segment. Whenever Bayley responds, Alexa just kicks her ass; in the end, she just gets murdered with a kendo stick, which was the final nail in the coffin for her. I know Bayley isn’t good at promos, but it would have been nice to see her actually get offense in instead of looking like a loser every week.
Now there’s Sasha Banks, who has probably been Alexa’s best opponent. They have good matches. But who decided to give Sasha a two week title reign? Why not just keep it on Alexa in the first place? Now Sasha Banks, the top female babyface, looks like a stupid loser.
It’s only going to get worse, though.
