Lane plays a clip of Wade Keller from last week where Keller admits to being annoyed by John Cena’s recent attitude shift, where he appears to not be taking himself seriously. Russo assumes we simply can’t have fun in the wrestling business anymore; that seems to be the constant thread amongst these marks.
Next, Lane plays a clip of Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez who were discussing the backstage SummerSlam segment pitting Kurt Angle against Daniel Bryan. Meltzer was mentioning that Bryan stood no chance arguing over which brand had the best Title match, and Bryan should have picked his spot better. Russo explains that wrestling is a work, and this was a scripted television show. Meltzer is actually telling a character in a scripted television show to ‘pick his spot better’. Russo can barely believe his ears.
Another clip of Meltzer presents him criticizing the SummerSlam match between Big Show and Big Cass, saying that WWE ‘killed the shark cage gimmick’ with this match. Russo explodes into laughter and says he’s going to trademark that phrase so he can sell shirts with that quote on it. He’s sure he can sell dozens of that shirt.
