Lawler welcomes Cody Rhodes to the show.
Rhodes joins the show to discuss his upcoming ROH Title defence against Lawler. Rhodes points out that after this match, Lawler will have wrestled Dusty (his father), Dustin (his brother) and Cody himself. Lawler says he’s very much looking forward to this match, and it’s always been a pleasure working with the Rhodes family.
Lawler asks Rhodes who made the decision to make this match a ROH Title match. Rhodes says that the ROH Title is his, and ROH hates the fact that he’s a ‘free agent’. They really want him to sign an exclusive contract but he refuses to work exclusively for any company anymore. It’s his decision to put the ROH Title on the line, and he doesn’t see why ROH would have an issue with that.
Lawler points out that if he wins, the ROH Title would be going around the waist of a WWE-contracted talent. Rhodes admits that he hadn’t really thought about that, and he admits that might cause some issues. He says that this is all hypothetical and he doesn’t even want to think about that alternative right now. He says his goal in this match is to prevent Lawler from pulling his strap down off of his shoulder, because once that happens, it’s only a matter of time before the Piledriver connects and it’s lights out for him.
