Welcome to another exciting edition of SmackDown Live, the first show following SummerSlam 2017!
We’re 48 hours removed from SummerSlam 2017 and SmackDown Live received quite a shake-up at the summer blockbuster. Jinder Mahal retained his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura, largely thanks to the Singh Brothers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jinder hold a celebration tonight, however Nakamura clearly isn’t finished with Jinder and his chase for the WWE Championship.
The Uso’s defeated The New Day to win back their Tag Team Championships on the SummerSlam pre-show. As has become customary, these two teams had one of the best matches of the night and it was somewhat surprising to see The Uso’s walk out with the titles. Does this meant he feud continues? It seems likely that we’ll get one more match between the two but I think it’s time to move on and Breezango are more than ready for a push.
AJ Styles retained his US Championship against Kevin Owens at SummerSlam, but not without some controversy thanks to Shane McMahon as the referee. Owens and Shane had a couple of rough run-ins during the match, which seems to hint at an upcoming feud between the boss and the hot-headed former Champ. Where does AJ Styles go now? He’s due a new challenger for his United States Championship and I personally would love to see Chad Gable get a shot.
We have a new Women’s Champion in the form of Natalya! She defeated Naomi in a solid match and didn’t even cheat to do so. Naomi seemed very sad when she lost her title, while Natalya had a smug look on her face, indicating this feud is far from over. Not to mention we constantly have the x-factor of Carmella and her money in the bank briefcase waiting in the background.
That’s the preview for tonight’s show. Remember to join in the conversation on the Ringside Talk app and enjoy the show!
