Russo is joined on today’s show by Big Vito.
Russo says that he didn’t watch the kickoff show on Sunday, but he was able to watch the majority of the actual SummerSlam PPV. Big Vito says the one match that stood out to him on the Kickoff show was the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship match between The Usos and The New Day, and he feels that match deserved to be on the main card.
Speaking about the match between John Cena and Baron Corbin, Russo has no explanation as to what happened to Corbin’s big push. After failing in his cash-in attempt last Tuesday, Russo was sure that Corbin would go over Cena at SummerSlam or he’d find a way to get involved in the Nakamura/Mahal match. Neither of those things happened, and Corbin was simply defeated clean in the middle of the ring.
Russo adds that if WWE is punishing Corbin for something, you’d think they’d just fine him or punish him behind the scenes instead of burying him on camera because that hurts the company too. Big Vito points out that WWE doesn’t mind hurting themselves a bit in these cases, because the best way to punish any talent is to take their push away from them.
