NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III Kick-Off Show
The Kick-Off Show begins with our panel hosted by Charly Caruso and consisting of Lita, Sam Roberts and Corey Graves. Corey says his returning to NXT tonight is like Jon Snow returning to Winterfell. Lita says the Barclays Centre is the best smelling arena in the States. Charly calls tonight a homecoming and says that we’ll be joined by former NXT stars to celebrate the event. Sam Roberts says that many WWE fans are more excited for tonight than they are for SummerSlam.
We go backstage to see Renee Young who says it’s great to back here in NXT where she started. She says she will be doing some exclusive interviews tonight and she is joined by Raw General Manager Kurt Angle! Angle says this is his first time being at NXT and he can’t say why exactly he’s here. He says he’s looking forward to Bobby Roode Vs. Drew McIntyre as well as Asuka Vs. Ember Moon. Renee says Angle might be here scouting and he laughs. He then talks a little about SummerSlam and Renee wishes him good luck.

Corey Graves says that Angle is a great General Manager, as he’s down in NXT scouting. Graves then points out that the main event of last year’s Brooklyn TakeOver was Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Samoa Joe, both of whom are in World Title matches tomorrow night. The future starts in NXT says Corey. Charly asks if the next big star will be here tonight, to which Lita says Angle is a terrible liar and of course he is here to find new talent. Charly asks if Kurt is keeping an eye on someone in particular, to which Graves says he is a smart man but you’ve got to expect Daniel Bryan to also be here tonight.
Big E has joined the TakeOver panel (wearing a Ric Flair t shirt as a nice gesture) and Graves asks him what it was like to win the NXT Championship from Seth Rollins back in 2013. E says it was great, particularly with the 5-count which he took from King Kong Bundy. E says that FCW was a good experience but NXT was a big leap because it got you accustomed to the lights and camera’s, which helps prepare you for Raw. Big E jokes that his time in NXT helped him learn the ropes and how to gyrate his hips, to which Graves says he doesn’t remember that being in the classes. The panel discuss the NXT Tag Team Championship match tonight and Big E says that there is a lot of meat out there in that match and he loves meat. He says he has to give his vote to The Author’s of Pain. Sam Roberts asks how you can take down a man or a team that seems unbeatable and E says that you have to pin or submit them. Graves says that you can’t count-out Paul Ellering and Big E agrees, saying that all great supervillains are bald, like Mega-Mind. They ask which team Big E would like to face and he says The Author’s of Pain because Nikki Cross scares him. Charly says Big E has a big day tomorrow…to which E stops her and says she can’t shut him down. He puts his feet on the desk and stretches out but then Corey is forced to get his legs down. Big E should be a guest more often.

Neville joins the panel and he apologises because he isn’t thrilled to be here. He’s counting down the hours until Christmas Day, the day he wins back his title. Corey asks what he can expect tomorrow, and Neville says expect what he always does: domination. Neville says that NXT was a huge part of his career and his journey to where he is now but it’s hard to look back at his time in NXT without some resentment. Graves asks him to elaborate and Neville says that NXT built him for success but he didn’t get that on the main roster so why did he pour his heart and soul into it? Sam Roberts mentions that Neville and Corey Graves used to be NXT Tag Team Champions and says that Corey marvels at these TakeOver’s and how far it has come, but does Neville not think like that? Neville says to not get him wrong, he’s proud of what he achieved and how far the brand has come. However he was naive back then. Graves asks Neville what he thinks of Aleister Black Vs. Hideo Itami. Neville says he knows both very well and has been in the ring with both. Neville says they kick very hard but he has no affiliation with either man, but he looks forward to both men kicking each others block off. Roberts says that Neville has been performing with an emotional perspective, and asks if that’s a better strategy. Neville says it would be silly to negate emotion, you should use it to your advantage. Graves asks what Itami has to look out for and Neville says Black’s strikes and how to defend them.

Corey Graves moves on to talk about Johnny Gargano Vs. Andrade Cien Almas. He asks Neville how he thinks Gargano can perform with the betrayal of Tommasso Ciampa still weighing on his shoulders. Neville says Gargnao is trying to bounce back after a betrayal from his partner…and he knows what that feels like. Neville stares at Graves who taps his pen on the table, guilty as charged. Neville says just like a King, Gargano can indeed bounce back. Roberts asks if Neville has any advice for Johnny on how to bounce back, to which he looks at Corey and says never trust anyone.
We return to a refreshed panel that consists of Charly, Carmella, Sasha banks and Lita – the first ever woman-only panel in WWE! Banks says she loves being back here, it feels like just yesterday she faced Bayley in this building two years ago. Banks says they were called the “second main event” that night, but they were the main event of the night. To which Lita says of the entire weekend and Carmella says it was one of the best matches ever. Charly asks what it’s like for Carmella to be back in this changed landscape, to which she says she never actually compete on a TakeOver card. Lita says maybe she’ll cash-in tonight and Carmella tells Asuka to watch her back.
Sasha Banks says that she owes everything to NXT and when you look at Raw and SmackDown’s women’s divisions, they are made up of ladies from NXT. Charly asks about tonight’s match between Asuka and Ember Moon. Carmella says that everyone wants to dethrone Asuka and she is sure that Ember thinks she is the one. Lita says that ending Asuka’s streak is a massive moment for any girl and it could make Ember’s career. Lita asks if the eclipse is gonna come early and Sasha Banks says she thinks Asuka is too good. Carmella sides with Ember because she wants to see the streak end. They talk a bit about the Mae Young Classic and Lita says it lives up to the hype. Carmella says it’s incredible to be a part of this women’s revolution and the sky is the limit, Sasha adds that all of their achievements have occurred in the last 2 years. The Mae Young Classic airs next week but a preview airs right after SummerSlam tomorrow night!

Renee Young is backstage with Becky Lynch and Bayley and is asked how it feels to be back. As is customary, Becky says that seeing how far NXT has come is amazing and she loves it. Becky starts talking and gets booed by the fans, also she’s wearing a Paramore t shirt, shout out to that! Bayley says she still feels like a part of NXT because she never left, she’s at the P.C pretty often and she watches every episode. Bayley talks a bit about her recovery and physical therapy.
Baron Corbin joins the panel and Corey reminds him that he was here two years ago and faces Samoa Joe. Corbin says that was amazing because it was the first big crowd he ever wrestled in front of and there was a lot of legends backstage that he got to meet. Corbin says that the fans in Brooklyn are out of their mind, for good and bad. Graves says that Corbin is a testament to what NXT is all about – taking someone who is a blank slate and moulding them. Corbin says that is true, what Triple H has built with the Performance Centre gives you every asset you need to become a success. He says he came here with a purpose, not to make friends, and it has worked out for him. Roberts asks him about his match against John Cena and he says it’s a testament to hard work and positivity. He says his advice is to run with your head down and eyes closed. Graves asks about Bobby Roode and Drew McIntyre, to which Corbin immediately says Bobby Roode. He says he respects the swagger that Roode has shown and nobody has proved him wrong yet. He says Bobby is living and dying by his sword, just like him, and that’s how you become a success. Corey Graves agrees with him but Sam Roberts reckons McIntyre will snatch the gold! That’s it for the Kick-Off Show, a much better pre-show than usual. Now on to the main card!
