When Russo moved on from WWE and began working for WCW, WWE had taken control over the ratings war at that point. He walked into a WCW locker room that was the complete opposite of what he experienced in WWE just a couple of years prior. The top guys dressed alone and had significant control over creative decisions. Undercard and midcard guys were treated as less than the top guys, and there was a lot of tension backstage.
Vito informs that when he arrived in WCW from ECW, he noticed some of that as well. However, he doesn’t think the backstage environment was as bad as some people think. He often played cards with top guys like Sting and Kevin Nash, and there was a strong sense of friendship. He does admit that he wasn’t a top guy then, so these guys may not have looked at him as a threat to their position and this led to them accepting him more.
That sums up today’s episode of Vince Russo’s The Brand. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
