As seen on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, WWE announced that Kevin Owens will receive a shot at the United States Championship against AJ Styles with Shane McMahon being the special guest referee at the upcoming SummerSlam event.
There was speculation that WWE was planning on having a match between Owens and Shane for SummerSlam but that match obviously won’t be taking place on that card now. Bryan Alvarez indicated on Wrestling Observer Live that the inclusion of Shane in the US Championship match at SummerSlam, will factor into a match at a later date between Owens & Shane, presumably at WrestleMania next year.
