Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reports that Paul Heyman has been pushing behind-the-scenes for WWE to give Samoa Joe a run at the WWE Universal Title at SummerSlam. This would allow Lesnar time to start beginning his training for a UFC comeback, according to their report.
Barraso reported, “if “The Beast Incarnate” loses the title without being pinned or forced to submit will allow Lesnar the time off needed from WWE to begin preparing his next MMA fight”
He continued, “The inside track is that none other than Paul Heyman is advocating behind-the-scenes for Samoa Joe to win the title.”
While Barrasso reports Heyman is pushing for Joe to win the title, the claim about Lesnar starting his training for a UFC comeback may be premature.
It was reported earlier today via Wrestling Observer that Lesnar most-likely won’t return to the UFC until sometime after WrestleMania 34. The reason for that is Lesnar wouldn’t be able to get cleared from his USDA suspension until the first quarter of next year and it’s not likely WWE would give him time off to fight for the UFC during the busy time of the year for WWE (Royal Rumble & WrestleMania).
